Martano is a city of approximately 9,573 inhabitants situated in the province of Lecce, in Puglia. Interestingly, in Martano there are still vestiges of an ancient
language of Greek origin called Griko, which is still spoken by some.
Martano is home to quite a few churches and palazzi. It occupied a strategic place throughout history, as it is located at Italy's heel, just across from Albania and Greece
on the opposite side of the Adriatic.
